What is your Why?
The "Community Garden" Newsletter
What? The Community Garden newsletter was established as a way for any and all community members to connect in a creative and collaborative way on completely neutral ground. Each issue of the newsletter would be issue-free and free to all members (home/property owners and renters alike) to contribute to. As all issues are archived, it’s a way for potential community members and others just peeking in to get a feel for what our community is about. It provides a space for sharing things other community members of the GWCC—here and beyond—may also appreciate and be inspired by. In short, the newsletter is one modality through which a community culture may be developed and shared with others.
Why? Any community—be it governmental, business, religious or other organization—is vulnerable to getting mired in the ‘nitty gritty’ of mundane affairs. Personal conflicts may arise around certain issues adding more grit to the ‘gritty’. There are real concerns that require attention and there are manufactured concerns that fuel division. Though it’s a bigger task than a simple community newsletter can ever fully address, the fostering of more connectedness and a more cohesive community culture is among the most effective antidotes to counteract unnecessary drama and division. A simple forum for uplifting and sharing allows a space in which members may be seen and heard as humans with hearts and minds, insights and ideas to share, not just threats to another’s egoic position.
In summary… We don’t need more 'content’ in the world and we certainly don’t need more competition for attention. What we need is more authentic connectedness so we may create a confluence of ideas and collaborative relationships to support more courage / heart-based responses to the general discord within the world. Through cultivating and sharing our local solutions we may contribute to the collective resourcing for more functional responses in this time of future-forming change.
