What is your Why?
The "Community Garden" Journal
What? The Community Garden is a bi-weekly periodical meant to inform and engage our community members on completely neutral ground in a creative and collaborative way. Each issue of the newsletter is issue-free (that is, free of hot button issues) and free to all members' of our community to contribute. The CG provides a space for sharing uplifting and inspiring ideas, off-grid living tips, skywatch news, local culture and history, land and nature appreciation, indigenous wisdom, mythopoetic entertainment, music, art and wholesome humor… all manner of enrichment other community members of the GWCC—here and beyond—may also appreciate and benefit from. In short, the newsletter is one modality through which our community’s culture may be developed, enhanced and shared with others.
Why? The Community Garden was born of a desire to cultivate a richer common soil/soul to better nourish our diverse human garden that is our GW community. It was originally offered in response to a trend of behaviors and attitudes that were clearly detrimental to the collective ethos. Our community 'soil’ was in need of some amending and our community’s relationships were in need of mending.
How? Like The Christmas Truce, engaging one another in a neutral space can help us get in touch with our core humanity and transcend any perceptions of manufactured division. Each issue of the CG establishes a central theme with supporting content meant to 'compost' some of the social detritus within our community as it would arise—a way of creatively working with issues without making them a bigger problem. Regardless of who or how many read it, nor whether the subject matter is being received as intended if at all, it is my heart-felt believe that sowing the 'seeds' offered with each issue of CG into the ‘field' of collective consciousness will at least establish the possibility for more positive growth to come.
In summary… We don’t need more “content" in the world and we certainly don’t need more competition for our precious attention. What we need is more authentic engagement with more nourishing ideas that appeal to the truer aspects of our humanity. Awakening and nourishing the authentic self provides the North Star for our Purpose to follow. By making an appeal to the true human within, it is my hope that the Community Garden will inspire a collective flourishing for our GW culture and beyond.
